Lana'i: Where Maui residents go to get away

Even if you live on Maui, sometimes you need to get away for awhile.

Fortunately, just 9 miles from Maui’s west coast, there sits an island where it feels like you’re going back in time. On Lana’i, there are no stoplights and just 3,000 residents, many of whom live in picturesque plantation-style homes.

For those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle, Lana’i is the perfect place to get away. Only 30 miles of Lanai’s roads are paved, but residents also have access to the luxurious Four Seasons Resort and two world-class golf courses — the Manele Golf Course and the Koele Golf Course.

From adventurous off-road trips to visiting historical sites, there are all sorts of unique activities to do while visiting or living on island. Enjoy secluded, white-sand beaches or spend an afternoon checking out restaurants and shops in Lanai City, the main town on the island.

Although the island is predominantly owned by Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, it's entirely possible for residents to purchase a piece of property on Hawaii's hidden gem.

When you travel to Lana’i, there’s a feeling that everyone knows their neighbors and the communities are safe. For example, this exquisite plantation-style home is located just on block from the heart of town and all the shopping and restaurants it has to offer.

The home has a spacious deck where you can enjoy the cool island breezes. And lucky for those looking for an island getaway as soon as possible, the home is offered turnkey with all the finest furnishings, kitchen appliances and over-size rocking chairs on the front deck make for a great spot to watch the world go by.
