Scott relocated from Southern California to East Maui, and specifically Kipahulu, in 2009 and has lived there ever since. He has worked as independently contracted, property manager for multiple absentee landowners who have luxury vacation homes in the area. Working as a property manager allowed Scott to acquire a vast amount of knowledge in the fields of off-the-grid living, structure and equipment maintenance, tropical landscaping and small-scale farming. He says that “one of my most valuable skills in this line of work is knowing how to prioritize clients’ needs and making every effort to satisfy the customer.”

Scott considers himself a bit of an history and anthropology buff and has a particular interest in the people, land and development of greater Kipahulu/Kalepa/Kaupo. When he started searching for a parcel of land to purchase for himself and his wife to homestead, he thoroughly researched the three above-mentioned areas, learning all he could about the rich culture, customs and folklore of the region. His knowledge was deepened by having insightful conversations with many longtime Kipahulu kupuna, as well as obtaining several little-known, written historical documents about of the area. All of these efforts allowed Scott to further appreciate the unparalleled level of beauty of the area. The remote setting, the rich culture and history, the land and its peoples, offer a truly distinctive type of luxury to its residents.

As a former Ironman triathlete, Scott practices a healthy, organic lifestyle and is happiest when he’s active and outdoors. A good deal of his spare time is devoted to the development of his seven acre, off-the-grid homestead in Kipahulu, that will be home to him and his wife, their devoted Jack Russell mutt and constantly growing farmyard menagerie. His traits of being a hands-on, “jack of all trades” kinda guy has proven invaluable during this challenging project. One of the many rewards for the long, hard work in pursuit of this dream, is to marvel at the sweeping view across the Alenuihaha Channel to Mauna Kea on Hawaii Island in all her sparkling glory.
