Island Sotheby’s International Realty agents are representing what could be the largest sale ever for a single-family home on Maui.

Realtors Courtney Brown, R(S) and Rob Shelton, R(B) are representing the owners of a sprawling 10-acre oceanfront estate, equipped with its own small lighthouse, that’s offered for $49 million. If it sells for that price, it would break Maui’s current record of a single-family home, which is currently held by a $41.8 million home sold in 2015, according to the Maui Association of Realtors.

This once in a lifetime property has already garnered national attention, including that of the Wall Street Journal and Mansion Global. That’s no surprise: The estate boasts more than 12,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor living space and over 20,000 square feet of meticulously-landscaped grounds.

Ideally situated on a point that appears to soar over the Pacific Ocean, views from the property sweep from the West Maui coastline to the Pailolo Channel, offering stunning vistas of Molokai and Lanai. The home is the epitome of indoor-outdoor living, boasting a great room that leads to a sheltered lanai and the pool deck below, all perfectly situated to gaze upon colorful Maui sunsets.

The Island Sotheby’s International Realty agents are representing Craig Ramsey, the seller and longtime Oracle employee, who purchased the property for about $14 million in 2000, the Wall Street Journal reported. Ramsey told the news outlet that he first fell in love with Hawaii during a sailing trip.

He told the reporter about a story that happened five years ago, when he was staying in the estate when a loud noise woke him in the middle of the night.

"I got up with a flashlight and went toward the water and for the next hour witnessed a mother whale giving birth," he told the Wall Street Journal. "For the next two weeks, they never ventured more than 400 or 500 yards from the cove while the calf was learning to swim."

All of the eight bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms were designed with the utmost attention to detail. The master suite embodies the atmosphere of spa retreat, with a bath that looks out to the azure Pacific Ocean and manicured grounds. Four guest suites, each with ocean views, are nestled in one wing of the home, while bunk rooms and a media room are situated on the opposing side of the estate.

This residence named Hāwea Hale is situated in the world-class Kapalua Resort. Famous for its championship golf courses, white-sand beaches and unparalleled natural beauty, Kapalua is undeniably one of most prestigious resort communities. The seller will pay the initiation dues for a Platinum Membership in the Kapalua Club.

This exceptionally rare estate was built before changes in zoning and is the largest oceanfront property in the resort. Located within a conservation area, the region is home to more than 300 endangered birds and their respective colonies.
