The most winning doubles team of all time and an Olympics tennis coach descended on the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch last week for the High Powered Doubles Camp, one of the most esteemed doubles tennis camps on Maui.

The four-day camp was supported by Island Sotheby’s International Realty’s own Mino McLean R(B), who also participated in the event. Pet owners who want to bring their furry friends to Hawai’i from the mainland can rejoice — the state’s quarantine process just got a lot quicker.

Hawai’i is the only rabies-free state in the country, largely because the state has carefully managed animals traveling to and from the islands with strict quarantine laws that have been in effect for decades. But now, pet owners who go through an expedited process, known as the 5 Day or Less Rabies Quarantine Program, can get their pets to the islands even quicker than before. With that process, pets don’t have to be quarantined when they arrive at the airport.

Imagine what is once was like to bake bread and churn butter without the modern wonder of electricity.

Island Sotheby’s International Realty agent Ricardo Ralha, R(S) knows exactly what that’s like. Ralha was recently part of an event held by the Portuguese Association of Maui, which sought to teach Maui’s keiki the traditional way of baking bread and churning butter without electricity. 

The event, however, was about more than just teaching the historical techniques of baking bread in a stone oven. Instead, Ralha and the other members were using the activity as a way to preserve and celebrate the history of Portuguese people in Hawai’i.

For yet another year, Maui Realtors and Rotarians came together to help students in Hana.

Last month, the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset held a school supply drive for the second year in a row to help Hana High & Elementary School students. Island Sotheby’s International Realty agent Heidi Dollinger, R(S) is the current president of the club, which has a mission to boost quality of life in West Maui and beyond.

“We recognize there is a need in the community to help families and teachers with the cost of school supplies for education,” Dollinger told the Maui News.

Even though the Lahaina-based club is more than 50 miles from Hana, the club collected $500 and eight boxes of school supplies for students last year, the Maui News

After more than 50 people lost their homes to fires that raged through West Maui last week, the Maui ohana is coming together to help them rebuild.

As Hurricane Lane barreled toward Hawaii late last week, the island braced for rain and floods.  Fortunately, the hurricane lost strength and far less rain was realized for most areas of Maui. Unexpectedly though, the wind fanned three fires which scorched roughly 2,330 acres from Launiupoko to Ka’anapali. According to fire officials, at least 21 structures and 30 vehicles were damaged. Six of those structures are located near Lahainaluna and the other 15 are are near Launiupoko.
