Hana: Maui's last untouched paradise

Hana town is Maui’s last undeveloped paradise.

Just more than a two hour drive from the Kahului Airport, Hana is one of the island’s most pristine jewels —  and one of the last remaining areas of Maui that truly feels like yesterday’s Hawai’i.

With just 1,200 residents, the town offers locals and visitors a refreshing lack of large resorts and developments. Dozens of waterfalls, freshwater pools and hiking spots contribute to Hana’s allure as the ultimate retreat into paradise.

Lucky for those looking for their own private space, there are handfuls of undeveloped properties perfect for building your own exotic oasis. Here are some of our favorite untouched Hana parcels:

Hana Highway, Hana HI 96713

This magnificent 61-acre property is only steps from the world-famous Hamoa Beach — undoubtedly one of Maui’s most pristine beaches.

Next door to Hamoa, this oceanfront property stretches across a half-mile of oceanfront pasture land, which wraps around a private cove on Maui’s eastern shore. Comprised of six separate parcels, this property could be used for ranching or farming, or for the creation of an extraordinary legacy estate.

Five minutes down the road, Hasegawa General Store sells local produce and staples, and has been serving Hana’s residents for more than 100 years. The store is one of the last surviving family-owned businesses on Maui, and the oldest store in Hana.

Hana Highway, Hana HI 96713

This breathtaking 81-acre parcel rises gently from the Hana coastline to the lush slopes of Haleakala, offering the perfect location for a luxury, tranquil estate.

A five minute drive from the property leads to the famed Waiokoa Pond — also known as Venus Pools — where freshwater from east Maui streams flow into a picturesque saltwater pool that leads to the warm Pacific Ocean.

After exploring Hana’s lush rainforests and waters, relax at Travassa Hotel & Spa — a boutique resort that neighbors the property. Year after year, Travassa Hotel & Spa has been voted one of Maui’s finest getaways, and has won awards including Hawai’i Magazine’s "No. 1 Hotel/Resort for a Romantic Getaway" and Condé Nast Traveler's "No. 3 Resort in Hawaii."

467 Kapia Road Lot 1 - Parcel 26, Hana HI 96713

Hana is famous for breathtaking, undeveloped terrain and serene isolation — and this 17-acre property epitomizes those luxuries.

Located in the coveted Maka'alae mauka area of Hana, this property offers sweeping coastal views that look out to Hawaii’s Big Island. This rare property is within walking distance of the world famous Hamoa Beach, and offers gently sloping pasture land and multiple building sites — perfect for a luxury ranch estate.

A short drive away, Wai’anapanapa State Park is home to panoramic views of Maui’s eastern coast, hiking, a blowhole and black sand beach. Spend a night in the park’s cabins, and take the time to enjoy dozens of other natural wonders including freshwater pools, caves and archeological sites.
