Deb Schonewill puts the A in aloha with her passionate admiration for the island of Maui and everything she does for her clients. Having always felt a magnetic pull to Maui, Deb moved to the island with good wishes from the most influential mentors in her life. She sees the culture, natural beauty, and the rich community as an incredible place to live one’s life. She is joining the Island Sotheby’s International Realty ohana because she believes realty is founded on making genuine relationships.

Honesty and sincere respect are at the foundation of Deb’s relationships with her clients. To her, real estate is about making those connections and working with people that create mutually beneficial relationships. She is genuine and committed to her craft. Communication and transparency are at the core of every transaction and she works her hardest to make those Maui dreams come true.

What led you to where you are today?

I will need to give the island of Maui credit for leading me here to live and work, along with the inspiration of my mentors throughout my life. Our personal growth thrives well when surrounded by ALOHA, meaningful relationships, stunning places, and positive foundations to build on. Aloha exists beyond the islands, but there is simply a plethora of it here and that I love. 

 

A long succession of mentors helped guide me here, including my strong mother, outgoing father, and inspiring college professors. My first boss, Dennis Numkena, a Hopi Indian architect, led me to work with and study high-profile architecture firms that were sensitive to native land as well as modern development. I consider the amazing real estate professionals, architects, designers, clients, and developers I worked with on all my projects mentors as well. One of the most beautiful things I have learned from my experience is that real estate is an example of how things are created or recreated from existing structures. This has all led to my current passion for real estate and appreciation of the art.

What's one thing you've always wanted to do on Maui but haven't yet?

Voyage on the Hokulea in local waters. 

What inspired you to work in Maui real estate and why ISIR? 

I am inspired by Maui's real estate's ability to be a cause for well being- be it part-time or year-round. Island Sotheby's International Realty has the authentic aloha and family culture paired with shining exceptional service.

Where is one place on the island we can find you on the weekend or in your spare time and why? 

Hopefully on a boat cruising on the water or in the water off of a beach peering at sea life. Beach sunset walks. Why? To experience the peace and the beauty.......rejuvenate and reflect.

What should clients know about you? 

Real estate is gratifying matchmaking of sorts. We strive for a consistent level of honesty, respect, and have a sincere curiosity for the needs of a client. Whether a seller or buyer, we will listen, adjust, find or build your vision and in the case of a listing--shine the light on the assets of the property and encompass the whole picture for a prospective buyer. On the buyer side, much time will be spent to uncover what you are looking for and act quickly. We will promise to communicate clearly and be responsive throughout the process. We will see any transaction through to the end goals, all with respectful persistence. Once we arrive at the client's destination - we celebrate it.
