A true Maui man, Kono Davis was born and raised on the island of Maui and has been a part of the rich and welcoming community for over 50 years. Not only has he been a true local all his life, he has spent the majority of it in the Maui Fire Department.

His career as a firefighter, surrounded by people from all walks of life, has taught him how to communicate effectively. This has led him to understand what it means to help people and be a guiding light in times of need, something clients will be able to feel from a mile away. His roots run far deeper than a lifetime of growing up on the island and the Hawaiian culture. Kono holds the value of ohana and its importance dear to him. His dream? Building his very own home on Maui land big enough to welcome his entire family and have a place he built from the ground up.

“I have a spirit of helping others, always have. I take pride in what I do and I will always go the extra mile to assure clients are happy.”

His passion for real estate came from his eagerness to do more outside of firefighting and raising his family. He found a home at Island Sotheby’s International Realty and is excited to grow his reach on Maui. Meet Kono Davis below and let him lead you to your dream Maui home, all with a smile.

What led you to where you are today?

I have had an interest in real estate for several years now but didn't think seriously about it until recently. One day I was thinking about the ending of my career as a firefighter and what that would look like. Real estate seemed desirable and I decided to move forward with the testing process. I passed the pre-license and licensing exams, and here we are.

Throughout my career, I have held many part-time jobs involving all aspects of construction (ex. Electrical, Plumbing, Masonry, and General Construction). However, most of my insight came when working as a Lieutenant at the Fire Prevention Bureau, where I reviewed and approved building and subdivision permits. Knowing the process from that point of view will definitely help me in my new endeavor as a realtor here in Maui.

What's your favorite part about living on Maui and why?

My most favorite part about living here on Maui is that I get to be around family. It doesn't hurt that we live on a gorgeous island, which is a desirable location for many. Being in such a diverse demographic location, I wouldn't want to raise our children anywhere else. Healthy and clean living, with the importance of Ohana, is what we live by each day. Maui is the perfect place for that. In addition, I love how stable our weather is here, allowing us to do many things throughout the year.

What's one thing you've always wanted to do on Maui but haven't yet?

I've done so many things here on Maui within the 50 years I've been here, it’s difficult to identify something that I haven't done that I would like to. One thing that sticks out would be to obtain property that I could build our dream home on, from the ground up. I'd like to be able to have free rein on all aspects of the location and build. Somewhere where my family can be welcomed and large enough to accommodate everyone. A lot of what I do now is for my children to experience all the things that I have, here on this beautiful island.

What inspired you to work in Maui real estate and why ISIR?

Maui has some of the most beautiful homes and views. Whether up on the mountain or near the sea, as well as everything in between, Maui has something for everyone. I'd like to be able to help people get what they desire in a home. Maui is my home and I  wouldn't want to do real estate anywhere else.

Where is one place on the island we can find you on the weekend or in your spare time and why?

So my time off fluctuates with my fire schedule, but when I am off you can find me spending time with my family. Whether it's beach days with the kids, Church on Sundays, or the many sporting events we have to attend between my oldest two, we are there.

I may squeeze in a golf or fishing day here or there, but most of our time is for creating memories with the family. I love to work around the house, getting our new home to the way we like it. Having family and friends over to enjoy with us.

What should clients know about you?

I have a spirit of helping others, always have. I take pride in what I do and I will always go the extra mile to assure clients are happy. I know this island well and have the experience to know a good product when I see one.

Although I only know one language, I feel that communication is more than just words. I have the ability to connect with many different types of people, as I have been doing it with my job as a firefighter for many years now. I connect with locals and visitors alike. And always do what is right.
