Island Sotheby’s International Realty wants to extend a huge aloha to Sam Utley for successfully obtaining his Broker license. Utley has shown an admirable sense of dedication to his craft and we all want to take this time say congratulations!

After coming to Maui to chase his kiteboarding dreams, Utley discovered the natural talent and personality he had for selling homes on Maui. As a new realtor, he gained his confidence by turning to his close friends and clients he had made in his kiteboarding career, eventually selling his first home for 6 million dollars to one of them. This pushed Utley to keep his momentum going and push himself to become the best version of himself for his clients and peers.

“Over the last 5 years, I have stayed within the top 10% in sales with Island Sotheby's International Realty. I knew that it was time to start studying and further my career in Real Estate by getting my Brokers License.”

Find out more about Utley’s journey below.

What do you love about the real estate industry?

SU: I love looking at all the wonderful architectural homes on Maui as every property has the right fit for someone, when I look at a property I’m always thinking who would this property be perfect for. I love the negotiations of getting the Seller and Buyer to agree to terms and price is always a win in my book.

What started your real estate journey?

SU: For the past 20 + years I have worked in sales. Kiteboarding brought me to Maui where I was working for Neil Pryde Windsurfing and Cabrinha Kiteboarding, as I watched customers come to Maui asking about the best places to stay and what to do when they were done windsurfing. I started to get really interested in real estate and felt getting my salesperson’s realtor license would allow me to help customers and friends buy a piece of paradise on Maui.

How have you grown as a professional?

SU: My first sale was over 6 million to a customer that bought kites from me, this gave me the confidence that I had made the right choice to get my Real Estate License. I became extremely motivated to learn and further my education, getting my brokers license was a distant goal. Over the last 5 years, I have stayed within the top 10% in sales with Island Sotheby's International Realty. I knew that it was time to start studying and further my career in real estate by getting my brokers license. I am really excited to further my career with this new achievement.

What was your biggest takeaway from this experience?

SU: My biggest take away from getting my brokers license is that even though I have been practicing real estate full time for the past 7 years there is always more to learn, studying for the brokers made me realize how intricate and complicated real estate can be, and through education and experience you are better prepared for every new situation than comes up
