Maui's Best Brews - The Ultimate Coffee Shop Guide

The 50th state is the only state in the US that grows its coffee. In a country that is guzzling down more than a third of the world's total supply of coffee, that title is pretty cool in our eyes. With roughly 800 plantations scattered across five islands, some might say, we know a thing or two about a cup of Joe. So, as you drive along the Lahaina coast, venture into the beautiful Haiku rainforests, or lounge on the Kihei shores, don't forget to stop at one of our favorite coffee shops along the way. Whether it's a macchiato produced from Molokai beans or a mocha prepared right here on Maui, every corner of Maui has a coffee shop for everyone.

Although every cafe has its flair, you'll find that almost everyone has a foundation in supporting the local community. From sourcing locally farmed ingredients, implementing biodegradable materials that conserve the earth, selling island-made goods and merchandise, to always brewing with aloha. So, if you find yourself on the Westside or upcountry, you'll always be able to discover your new favorite cup of Maui's finest coffee.

  1. Maui Coffee Roasters: Maui Coffee Roasters, located in the heart of Kahului, is one of our favorite coffee shops on the island. Since 1982, they've been roasting their beans in small batches every day for optimal freshness, and they provide a variety of pre-packaged coffee beans as well as all the accessories you'll need to make the ultimate cup. Maui Coffee Roasters offers everything from ground coffee to cappuccinos, Thai iced coffees, nitro cold brews, tea, and smoothies, as well as sandwiches, freshly baked goods, quiche, and wraps. Just 5 minutes from Kahului Airport, make Maui Coffee Roasters your first stop!

  1. UPDATE: Sip Me is temporarily closed.
Sip Me: Started in 2015, Sip Me is a Makawao based coffee shop that serves organic espresso, coffee, tea, juice & treats made with love! Located off Baldwin Avenue across from small boutique shops and businesses, Sip Me has a cozy, somewhat farmhouse yet contemporary style. A perfect stop as you drive through upcountry Maui or head down to the North Shore. Stop in to try their new fall Pumpkin Spice Latte with natural, organic pumpkin & spices since 2016, a delicious lavender latte, or famous chocolate croissant. Grab one or try one of their other Flavors Of Fall or new organic latte line to delight your senses! Full of charm and aloha, Sip Me is the perfect Makwao coffee stop.

  1. Lava Java Coffee Roasters: Maui's Lava Java Coffee Roasters is one of our favorite places to get excellent Maui-grown coffee on the island. Whether it’s a hot Maui day or cloudy afternoon, Lava Java serves up the very best on Maui's south shore. Their coffee is produced on Maui and is unlike any other coffee on the planet. Unrivaled in flavor, filled with natural oil content, and topped with a smooth, non-acidic finish, it’s unlike anything you’ve ever tried. Maui has a plethora of exciting things to see and do, and Lava Java is the perfect stop to keep you fueled for the island adventures ahead. Be sure to try their Maui cinnamon rolls, POG frosty, or dirty chai latte!

  1. Wailuku Coffee Company: Wailuku Coffee Company is a family-owned and operated business dedicated to providing the world's finest quality and most delicious coffees. Born in 2010 at the base of Iao Valley on the island of Maui, their mission is to bring Maui's dynamic community together over coffee and conversation. Dubbed "where the hip come to drink," it is the perfect place to kick back, relax, and enjoy the coffee shop atmosphere with a cup of Joe. Visit their flagship store, located on Wailuku's Main Street, or their second location in Haiku on Maui's North Shore. Both coffee shops are worth visiting since they provide convenience and enjoyment.

They also proudly support the community's artists and organizations. At each of their locations, they host monthly art exhibits and contribute 15% of all art purchases to local non-profit organizations. The revenues from their Golden Blend Coffee go entirely back into our community.

  1. Kraken Coffee: Kraken Coffee is a new addition to the Maui coffee scene. Their coffee truck is parked in both Kahului and Kihei, and both deliver excellent iced coffee with creative twists, nitro cold brew, and friendly service. Try their drink of the month, The Great Pumpkin! A signature spiced chai with the delicious flavor of pumpkin spice topped with whipped cream & a dash of cinnamon. The perfect drink to welcome the fall season! They also have delicious lattes, Mochas, Cappuccinos, and Frappes on their menu all the time. Even non-coffee drinkers are welcome to try their smoothies, Chai tea, Kombucha, and Sun teas. Don’t forget to grab a fresh Banana and Mango bread at checkout.
