One of Island Sotheby’s International Realty Realtor Becky Hanna R(B) has become one of the first on Maui to receive the National Association of Realtors’ Green Designation.

NAR’s Green Designation is the association’s only conferred certification designed for real estate professionals who want to become better informed about energy-efficiency and sustainability in real estate. Across the globe, homeowners, builders and general consumers are becoming more and more aware of these issues, especially when it comes to the facets of green living and reducing carbon footprints.

“Since I care deeply about the environment, I knew obtaining the Green designation will help and encourage clients to care though consciously building green and promoting a sustainable lifestyle," Hanna said.

NAR’s Green Designation helps ensure that real estate professionals have the knowledge to guide their clients while focusing on sustainability. Hanna, a Realtor specializing in Maui’s lush Upcountry region, was roughly one of 20 people on Maui who underwent the training to receive the designation.

“This is my continued effort to live green and help others to do so through green building and environmental stewardship,” said Hanna.

Besides its beautiful beaches and tropical weather, the state of Hawai’i is known as a model for sustainable living. From government policies that push for sustainable energy sources to builders’ focus on eco-friendly building, it’s clear that Maui’s residents value environmental stewardship and protecting the islands we all call home.
