6 of Our Favorite 2021 Holiday Activities to Do on Maui!

Christmas on Maui is never a bad idea. Leaving the cold and icy temperature behind for 80 degrees and Hawaiian sunshine can have anyone learning to say "Mele Kalikimaka" faster than they thought possible. The holidays in Maui are something everyone should experience at least once. Santa wearing slippers and throwing up a shaka, palm trees wrapped in twinkling lights, and people wearing Santa hats while they surf the waves are things you'll see here on the island during Christmas. There's never a lack of fun and adventure, even for a small island. We've rounded up our favorite activities to do during the holidays on Maui below. Perfect for families, people of all ages, couple getaways, or just an escape with friends. There's never a wrong way to do Christmas, but why not do it Maui style?

Lahaina Banyan Tree

Marvel at the thousands of Christmas lights draped around the enormous 60-foot trunk of the Lahaina banyan tree. One of the largest banyan trees in the United States, you won't find this anywhere else. A memorable holiday tradition, the lit banyan tree twinkles all night long and is in the heart of Lahaina's Front Street, a bustling little town lined with shops and restaurants right along the water. These Christmas lights will be on from 5:45 p.m. to midnight throughout December. We recommend the free parking area off of Prison Street near the banyan tree.

Christmas Shopping Maui Style

As we roll into the 2021 holiday season, we wanted to inspire your holiday shopping with a list of Maui businesses that make shopping local a walk on the beach! Shopping local is one of the best ways to support our community and give back to those striving to make Maui a better place. Lahaina's Front Street is packed with local Maui stores and restaurants selling gift certificates. Whalers Village in Kaanapali and the Shops at Wailea in Wailea are the two most famous shopping areas on the island, especially for tourists. The Lahaina Cannery Mall is a fun stop on the way out or into Lahaina and always has beautiful Christmas decorations throughout the area. You can venture into the little surf town of Paia or head upcountry to the old paniolo streets of Makawao to find unique gifts crafted right here on the island. The Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center's Hui Holidays is the perfect place to visit if you're looking for something to treat the artist in your life.
