Island Sotheby's International Realty Agents Tell Us Their Favorite Maui Golf Courses

The Island of Maui is home to some of the best golf courses in the world. Not only do some host major tournament events, but you can also plan on seeing a few A-list golfers roaming the island during the PGA TOUR, held on Maui every year. But don't take our word for it; let our very own golf enthusiasts at Island Sotheby's International Realty tell you their favorite courses on the island. 

The Plantation Course at Kapalua Bay

Ben Willis R(S): All the golf courses on Maui are fun to play, and it's nice to have a variety at hand. I would have to say The Plantation Course at Kapalua is my favorite to play. It is a real challenge, and I feel like I have accomplished something when I play well there. 

Scott Carroll R(S): Kapalua Plantation & Bay is where I have many memories. I spent some time working here and also consider the courses some of my favorites on Maui, along with the private club. The combination of the people I know and my amazing experiences also add to my personal boasting reviews. Kapalua also happens to be where I met my broker in charge, Rob Shelton. Safe to say that my golfing experience here on Maui has also allowed me to expand my ohana at ISIR, here in West Maui. I get delighted thinking about how I can utilize my island experience in a way to assist sellers and buyers of real estate. 

Blue Course at Wailea Golf Club

Ryan MacLaughlin PB: My favorite course is Old Blue at Wailea. It was the original resort course in Wailea, and it meanders through all the neighborhoods of Wailea. Growing up in the area makes me feel like a kid. The views of the ocean are amazing. I feel like I'm on vacation whenever I play there, which is often hahaha! 

The Bay Course at Kapalua 

Rob Shelton R(B): Put me on any of Maui's golf courses, and it's a great day. Some favorites would be The Kapalua Bay or Plantation Courses and The Emerald Course at Wailea. The Bay Course is very playable for all skill levels, and The Plantation Course is a challenging course with epic views. Recent upgrades to the course have contributed to the playability and condition. The Emerald Course at Wailea is fun and challenging and also offers outstanding views. I am also a member of King Kamehameha Golf Club, and that is an excellent experience. The staff is very welcoming, and the vistas from the course are superb.  

Up until its closure, The Village Course had been one of my favorites as it was for many residents. Now it remains as a series of hiking trails above the Kapalua resort. The views are spectacular, the workout is great, and at the top of the courses is a beautiful pond next to holes #5 and #6. Bring some bread to feed the ducks and fish.

Makena Golf & Beach Club

Shaun Pederson R(S): I grew up playing at Kapalua but my favorite course on the island has to be Makena. The course and property has evolved over the years to something spectacular. The layout, views and condition make it a golfer's dream. 

Manele Golf Course

Shaun Pederson R(S): Although not on Maui, another favorite would have to be found right across the way on the Island of Lanai. Manele Golf Course is definitely one of a kind. From the sea cliff holes, to the views from every shot, perfect condition, and hardly anyone on the course, it’s almost like it’s your own private course.

Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course

Candi Matthews R(B): I used to play in the Royal Ka’anapali Golf League but in 2014 I dedicated the year to charity golf tournaments Island-wide every month to support local and break out of my bubble. I’ve continued with that for many reasons, one being that I’m able to play the entire island & challenge my golf skills in a few different ways.  

Waiehu Golf Course

Candi Matthews R(B): My favorites tend to be more based on experiences I’ve had, because I am slightly competitive (I’m a twin, I have been competing my whole life), my favorite memories tend to align with my score. My biggest surprise course this year has been at Waiehu, not only the best greens on Maui, but the entire course is an adventure on the coast!
